Biography

Scott A. Kamber, the founding member of KamberLaw LLP and LLC, has served as lead counsel in dozens of class actions resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in relief for his clients. His cases have set precedents in consumer protection, Internet privacy rights, the liability of foreign states in U.S. courts, and the protection of biometric and other sensitive data. Beginning his career in big law in New York continues to inform his philosophy of effective litigation.

Mr. Kamber’s interest in Internet privacy rights began in the late 1990s when he settled the first Internet privacy case to recover a benefit for impacted class members. His standard-setting resolutions continued in drm, gaming, and music. His technology-centric practice now extends to AI litigation and regulation, having led litigations involving various AI models as early as 2019. Today, he keeps himself at the forefront of technological developments in AI through ongoing work in mechanistic interpretability, foundational machine unlearning, and differential privacy within neural networks.

Mr. Kamber continues to contribute to the privacy debate as the consumer’s voice in self-regulation. He leverages his hands-on approach — including the ability to program and work directly with advanced technologies — to provide unique advantages in litigation and advisory work. Simply put, Mr. Kamber does not accept that the inner workings of technology are simply a black box, and finds that it is often those inner workings that make the difference between success and failure for a client.

When not geeking out in his mountain lair, Mr. Kamber is regularly in court and has tried over 15 cases to verdict. His unique perspective has led him to frequently serve as the lone plaintiffs’ class action attorney speaker at a variety of venues around the world. One of his career speaking highlights was serving as keynote speaker at the IAPP Annual Conference.

Beyond litigation, Mr. Kamber’s commitment to effective negotiation and dispute resolution is evident through an active and broad international law practice that has taken him to over 30 countries and across five continents, including structured transactions with the Olympic Committees of several Eastern European and Latin American nations. He has worked to vindicate the rights of African torture victims and collaborated on a number of projects with a past President of the United Nations General Assembly. He frequently lectures on international matters and was a regular speaker and moderator for the Center for International Legal Studies, based in Austria.

Fun Fact: Mr. Kamber worked at a nuclear power plant between college and law school. He was not the inspiration for Homer Simpson (or Mr. Burns)..

Education

Scott A. Kamber graduated cum laude from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1991, where he was Order of the Coif, Articles Editor for the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, and a member of the Moot Court Board.
